Another big red sticker on the calendar for me today, my first workout in December. Maybe it is silly to admit that I respond to stickers (or gold stars, or M&M candies) even when I am dishing them out myself, but whatever works to get the habit established, that's all I'm interested in. It is likely that no one except
redbird is going to be interested in the details of my workout, but I am feeling pretty good about just having increased my weights. ( Read more... )
Last weekend I found Ahnold's late-seventies movie Pumping Iron for the whole family (the Iron Family) to watch, which was pretty interesting, particularly remembering how bodybuilding was such a phenomenon at the time. (The kid is working up a pretty good Ahnold "pump you up" impression, but hasn't sprung it on the staff at the health club yet.) But that whole bodybuilding approach is for a different purpose. Now I am going to prospect around to see if anyone in town has Pumping Iron II, which concerned how women's bodybuilding took off way back when. But things have changed. The young women I see at the gym don't dress like Flashdance or Ms. Lycra anymore. Maybe it was Title IX. And a good thing too.
