Went out this evening, that never happens. Even though it wasn't time yet for WisCon we met at the Bar at the Concourse, where they have jazz on Saturday nights. The singer Joy Dragland (with the Dave Stoler Trio) used to waitress at Nick's, the local fannish pub meet for oh so many years, and JulieZ was so astonishingly on top of things there as to find out that this waitress was not a student but a jazz singer who has gone to the big city and now come back, and sings rather well, Billie Holiday type repertoire, and a very nice job on Besame Mucho.
Tell me a story, sacred is the new (as Mr. Clute has it in Appleseed).
Here is a story: You know how some people have an allergy to shellfish. (I have known some who would have severe life-threatening reactions to eating things that were simply cooked in the same pan that shrimp had been cooked in even after it was washed.) Tonight I heard of a woman with such a sensitivity, out on the east coast, who married a lobsterman. When he came home from work he had to shower and wash all his clothes before coming into the house. Can you imagine? We will file this as an incident of Romance, with cross-reference to Medical Mysteries.
