1. Ceramics compared to watercolor: in a three-hour class period the amount the medium dries is a significant element of technique.
2. Ceramics can be made an even longer process than it already is. Last month I made a rolling stamp (very ancient design of which cuneiform examples are oldest) which involved cutting the letters backwards into the clay surface. (everybody talkin bout/ this-ism that-ism/ ism ism ism ism/ all we are/ saying/ is give/ PEACE/ a chance) Today I used the bisque-fired roller to press the texture of raised letters all over the surface of a platter, producing an object that looked entirely unlike anything I might have imagined.
3. What are rugby players called? we have one at our house now. First cleats, then mouthguard, next uniform shirt. The school club is not a formal team and but they do have a coach (the guy with the bag full of balls) and the team locker room seems to be from my observation the public sidewalk next to the field. Mr S says the amount of mud picked up is not significant "compared to motocross racing in the rain".
4. Laura's mystery tea (that has been sitting in the cupboard for probably too long) is oolong, I have decided, not a type I often drink, except it was offered at the Thai restaurant tonight.
