If I knew more about how to do this technology stuff, I would have not only pictures here, but sounds. Instead I have found this site where you can hear smalle fowles and some very cool insects. Also ordered some birdsong identification recordings from (ta-da!) the public library.

The guy who does these recordings is working in a part of Arizona where I have actually been, when my parents used to spend a lot of time up in the old-mining-town-now-artist-colony of Jerome. From their house you could see across the valley down toward Cottonwood and the red cliffs of the Mogollon Rim on the other side. We visited a big stone town structure in the valley at Tuzigoot that was built by the People Who Aren't There Any More at about the same time of the Mound Builders activity in the Mississippi Valley. It had a great view of the poisonous dried-up outwash ponds from the mine tailings...
