I am not entirely pleased with this new user picture, and feel it requires explanation. It really is a photo of me, and I hardly remember the coveted cowgirl suit it shows me wearing -- grew out of it far too quickly I guess. I was born in Oklahoma, and this photo was taken at Xmas time in the dry-grass backyard of the grad student housing of OU at Norman, prefabs from the war flaking with white paint, the shadow of a wire clothesline across the wall behind me. My mother's thesis advisor was the Santa who kindly provided the outfit, I am told. You can't see the boots here. The fringe on the skirt and vest was possibly just as important. It's hard to believe that Westerns could go so completely out of style as they have.

But the politics of this photo at the current time trouble me. Wearing those hats and boots has become the fashion statement of the current illicit administration. Small children are still given toy guns to play with in the U.S. (as well as violent video games). Yet some of us turn out to be pacifists. Angry pacifists. Our government has left a long trail of broken treaties. Impeach the resident! it would be a start.
