Within less than a week their swift drive up the wide interstate highway had outstripped supply lines. The armies spread out to dig in just past Eau Claire, between Red Wing and Chippewa Falls. There they attempted to somehow win over the population before really severe weather could set in, and prayed to avoid a house-to-house battle for Minneapolis...
