This afternoon it is time for a break. And I have already munched a bit, and had a double espresso at the coffee shop, and read most of the London Review of Books, so writing seemed like the next best thing to amuse myself. I'm at work in the studio, and have cranked up the stereo so as to compete with the gaming and online soundbites coming through the floor from the room directly overhead.

Yesterday I actually got my art show inventory list emailed to Toronto, without bouncing more than once, and assembled approximately 10 pounds of artwork (two pieces framed and a couple dozen matted) to carry with me. Also listed three pieces I haven't done yet! how's that for ambition! If I don't get them done, all I have to do when I get there is say "cross those off" as the organizers will have all the paperwork and sales labels printed out for me, which I thought would be easier than adding new things. This is the first time I have attempted to show stuff at a worldcon art show, though. The first one I had seen was at Chicago. So for some reason (okay, because John Hertz asked me so nicely) I am scheduled to give a Docent Tour on Friday at 11 a.m.

And so this afternoon (after a horribly strenuous workout) I have sat down at the drawing table. Cleared it off (again)(as usual). Yesterday when I was listing the inventory I picked out several of those frost paintings I did last winter from the Tolkien drawer where I had put them, and matched them up against Tolkien texts I had sketched out. Now plunging in! and of course it all takes longer than one might think. Measuring lines. Mixing the right color of gouache. Trying out a few lines in studio diary with every different pen at hand to find the right one. Getting distracted pasting stuff into diary. And so forth.

But it's hard to believe a few short months ago I was bewailing my lack of organization. My packing frenzy (the usual traveling thing set in early) has also influenced me to clear out the refrigerator this week. Until we got the organic farm box this morning there was a whole empty shelf, and an empty drawer still! This evening I am making an eggplant ratatouille with the first eggplant. We've been getting eggplant recipes from Harmony Valley, but my fallback is an all-purpose Italian eggplant marinara sauce to go with pasta, that I can throw in the leftover pesto and marinara with the fresh vegies.

Here I never got around to telling about last weekend which was so busy and emotionally intense, with the visit to Naperville and all. Forget if I mentioned here how I loved The Cherry Orchard! must find speech of the old servant about how they used to fix cherries but no one remembers how any more. Will go google that now. I want to write it out for my Naperville friends, who gave us an excellent pint of cherry preserves from their trees.
