Today was pretty warm, but we seem to have shifted to our fall weather pattern in which it comes from the north, promising more cool weather. Brilliant sun. Hibiscus, phlox and rudbeckia in full bloom. The ladybugs this year are yellow.

Painted and colored and had a good time. Made up label text to describe frostpaintings which my kid thought was a professional piece of prose. "This frostpainting represents a collaboration with nature. When the winter temperatures are below 20 degrees F. round the clock for several days, water and pigment will freeze in patterns on the paper, and are left outside to dry. Matching these backgrounds to the words brings the random design under control of the text. Or maybe it's the other way round."

Neighbor brought over plate of lemon bars, and we stood on the deck and had a nice long visit. She's still grieving for her daughter, but taking it easy for the next few months while she goes freelance. She recommended much fun to be had in Toronto.

Wrote a long detailed email report for calligrapher friends on the subject of our study group review of "Gilding With Cupric Metals over Colour Wash" workshop.

Kid has discovered local bodybuilding tournament that he wants to compete in, November. We are now set to convince him that he is going to have to get used to having people look at him. So today he allowed me to take some photos. He has learned all the required poses, referred me to bodybuilding website for further information, and studied Pumping Iron again. We had family pose-down.

Visit from [livejournal.com profile] bibliofile, with photos of friends.

Cooked edamame soybeans from Harmony Valley, and sweet corn for dinner. Maple pecan pie.
