Today is my day off. I was going to wind the Xmas lights around the front porch railings but I missed the window of opportunity last weekend while I was doing other things and then it started raining, very cold rain. Going out in that, first thing this morning, looked like a really stupid way to make the point that I am taking care of the Xmas lights to my own satisfaction this year, without asking anyone else to do anything he doesn't like. Maybe I will hang them in the windows instead.
I was planning to go out for a little recreational shopping today. I don't really need new velour sweats but they are on sale at Penney's, and going to the gym is somewhat demoralizing lately so it doesn't help that my gear is all approximately Flashdance era. But then the weather forecast was for rain changing to freezing rain and snow by noon, and I was not getting an early start. Then while I was reading and drinking coffee and sitting with the heating pad, it started snowing even earlier than predicted. It looks really pretty. Nice not to be out in it.
I have quite a lot to do here today anyway, running off some address labels for
replyhazy, planning and preparing for the calligraphy study group here on Friday all day, including lunch. We are going to have Fun With Gesso and Gilding, reviewing a workshop a couple of us had with Victoria Pittman at the Siena Center a year and a half ago.
It is possible that I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by even enjoyable things like sending Xmas cards because I am actually trying to do rather too much. Yesterday we had our last ceramics class, and I got Pieplate No. 1 ready for glaze fire and then scrubbed dried mud (not to put a fine point on it) off of half the studio glaze bucket area before I ran out of energy. So I have more than enough reasons to feel sore today.
By the time it started snowing I had noticed the ginger cookies are gone, and without even thinking about it had already started a new recipe, for spiced raisin bars. It is good for me to take actions without thinking about it as I have usually already thought about it far too long. At the same time and simultaneously (while the raisins cool) I am apahacking, with notebook and publication spread out in the dining room. It got me thinking about the Interstitial Arts panel at WisCon, which I have neglected to write about here. But I will. It can take me a while, but I am pretty good at sticking with it sometimes.
