Well, a number of people have been doing this and it got me thinking. Always a dangerous thing. (But not too hard!) Then the bits that have already been worked out over the years just started occurring to me so I noted them down.

Long long ago people used to tell me I would be played by Ali McGraw. Maybe it was the eyebrows. She was in Goodbye Columbus with Richard Benjamin, and then in that yucchy Love Story, and that's all I remember of her roles, which are not much of a recommendation. But I understand [livejournal.com profile] brisingamen has dibs on Judi Dench, so maybe I will stick with Ali.

My mom would be played by Liz Taylor, which I am sure would surprise her, but Liz should be honored with the part I think. (My aunt was going to be played by Marilyn Monroe -- that is how my cousin and I had divided up the screen stars when we were very young, and much to our mothers' surprise. Now I think she will be played by Farah Fawcett who has aged just right and has the accent down.) Today I decided my first dad would be played by Robin Williams, not because of physical resemblance so much as attitude. Then my second dad (her second husband) would be played by Richard Burton if we could get him -- with the academic couple in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf particularly in mind. But clearly this would have to use the Zelig technology by which old movie stars in the world of the future will be cut and pasted and graphically enhanced into current projects.

My younger brother, their son, will be played by William Hurt. Flashbacks of my other long-lost brother would be about right for Johnny Depp. (Ali McGraw could also play my sisters if there is any need, but I haven't actually met them so it's doubtful that they will enter the story.)

My best friend (in high school and college) would of course be played by Catherine Deneuve. Then I have roles lined up for Timothy Bottoms (who hasn't made a film apparently since the seventies), and either Olivier Martinez or Vincent Perez as the guitarist, and I think I can work in a cameo for Alan Rickman as a particularly intellectual barfly.

My spouse will be played by Klaus Kinski, in a lighthearted mood. My kid when he was very small was going to be played by Macaulay Culkin, who wasn't quite good-looking enough, but we were going to make do, but Macaulay has turned out rather a prat so now he'll be played by Brad Pitt. He says so himself, anyway, and that will be fine by me.
